Latest NewsResults from Earth Hour 2009Earth Hour 2009 took place on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Around the world, organizers encourage consumers to switch off their lights for one hour to conserve electricity. ISO-New England reported that there were 1000 US cities and towns participating in Earth Hour 2009, up from 300 last year. We compared this year's Earth Hour day to the previous Saturday, March 21, 2009, as well as to the 2008 Earth Hour day and its prior Saturday. As in 2008, there appears to be no discernible deviation from usual load curve during this year's Earth Hour. Saturday evening usage rises until peaking around 8 pm, and then naturally falls as the night progresses. March 28 was no different. While there is a difference between the two Saturdays in 2009, the difference clearly runs throughout the entire day, and is likely due to the difference in weather conditions. According to AccuWeather.com, the average temperature in Manchester, NH on March 28 was 46°F (normal average: 38°F) while March 22 was colder at 35°F (normal average: 36°F).
